Let the rebuilding begin...
Once, the Medieval Kingdom was home to a vast forest that was home to many. As the years went by, the forest saw a change and while that change worked for a while, it left a hole in the Chatalot community. The Enchanted Forest once filled an important niche in our little role play corner of the internet, the loss of which affected the roleplay community as a whole, whether you played in the forest or not. With its loose, all-ages ruleset, its open setting, and its friendly and inviting atmosphere, the Forest offered a place where everyone was welcome.
I remember when I first stumbled into the Forest many years ago. Even though I had never played on a site such as Chatalot before and I was, let's face it, very bad at it, I still found a place that I was comfortable in exploring all facets of freestyle roleplay. Over the years, I watched so many budding RPers find their footing in the Forest, enabling them to move on to the more in-depth rooms on the site. The Forest used to be a hub that connected several rooms in the Medieval Kingdom, but more than that, it was a gateway into text-based roleplay.
Since stepping back onto Chatalot, I have seen a rallying for that niche to be filled once more. There needs to be a place where anyone can pop in after a long day's work with nothing but their imagination and a keyboard. No massive storylines. No preset characters. No hassle. A place where new players don't feel quite so overwhelmed and intimidated so that they're free to find their own way. A place where it's okay to "dabble" in RP while waiting for your own storyline to continue elsewhere.
I had been searching for these things recently myself, having been away from the RP community for about five years, and it hit me that without places like the Enchanted Forest, text-based RP was dying out. So many people merely lurk, hoping that someone else will get the ball rolling. In one single night, after finally stepping off the lurking platform myself, I heard from seven different people who all stated the same things I have here. We need the Forest back bringing life into our beloved site.
Want to help? It's easy! Stop lurking. Yeah, that's really it. Get in there and play! Bring your friends and tell them to play too! Chatalot advertises itself as the site we can make our own. We let the Forest slip through the cracks...we can certainly bring it back. So by all means, dust off those old friends or make a few new ones and step back into that enchanted realm...
