The soles of Nyara's sturdy boots crunched along in the mixture of snow, ice, and mud. The season was trying to hold on when it was clear spring wanted to take hold. The half-dragoness normally didn't note the passing of the seasons as anything meaningful, and this spring it might have happened the same way except that the warmer weather invigorated travel on the roads passing the Forest.
It was these roads she traversed now, the forest to one side of her, and to the other....farms, at the moment, but she had also seen sweeping mountains, beautiful plains, and even the ruins that laid on the edge of the forest. She had covered much ground today and a smile touched her crimson lips as she realized her task was nearly complete.
Already, life was trickling into her beloved Forest. People came, as she hoped they would. One at a time. A pair here or there. It lightened her burdened heart a great deal to see the forgotten forest once more begin to thrive. It was such things that brought her out here today, on the cusp of spring. Perhaps she should find it appropriate that it was spring. The season of death drawing its last shaky breath as new life fought to take hold.
She paused in her trek, looking for a tree. It had to be the right kind of tree. Old and broad to shelter from most winds, and just knobby enough to serve her purpose. She smiled again as her eyes lit on a tree that was slimmer than what she wished, but had a low hanging branch that had been broken off some time ago. As she crossed the intervening distance, she pulled a parchment from her pocket, the like of which was scattered all along the roads that cut near to the forest. She wasn't sure anything would come from this venture, but if even one person took note, then it was worth it to her. She used the broken nub of a branch to affix her parchment, stepping back for a moment to admire her handiwork. It was a simple message, it was true, but simple wasn't always a terrible thing. With a curt, satisfied nod, the woman disappeared back into the forest once more. It was time now to sit back and let her eggs hatch.
Any approaching the note would find these words.
Welcome to the Enchanted Forest
Here within these woods, there is a home for all.
